Indie Film AS is proud to be considered one of the leading documentary production companies in Norway. We specialize in personal and challenging documentary films and series with strong visual identities, exploring a reality that never ceases to amaze us.

Indie Film was established in 1998 in Oslo. Our team includes eight employees, including several producers, in-house directors and distributors, as well as a network of freelancers, allowing us to cover almost all aspects in filmmaking, from development to release. The DNA of the company’s success is tied to a strong, active, and well-founded outlook on co-development, co-financing and co-production with companies and institutions outside our region.
Our team is trained as Impact & Outreach Producers, which has shaped a specialized strategy for distribution of all our films, implemented from the first development phases.
Indie Film is a certified Eco-Lighthouse company. We use a managing system to provide us with tools to evaluate and measure our environmental footprint in every production and in the organization of our company. Carsten is CEO and founder of Indie Film. He has been involved in the production of more than 200 titles, including feature documentaries, TV-series, commercials and commissioned films since the beginning of his career. Carsten is a 2006 EAVE graduate.

Thorvald started Indie Film Bergen in 2023. He earned his Master’s Degree in Documentary Filmmaking at the University College of Volda, and also served as the festival director of The Norwegian Documentary Film Festival in 2013. He previously worked as a producer at Flimmer Film where he produced the award winning documentary series Children Deported, a series about the children of refugees who face or faced the threat of deportation from Norway and the audience favourite The Fjord Cowboys. He produced the feature Once Aurora, which won Best Nordic Documentary at Nordisk Panorama 2019. His latest work include the documentary series The Silence of Oil (2022) and The Raaby Mystery (2022) at Screen Story.
August Baugstø Hanssen

August debuted as a solo director in 2014 with Ida’s Diary. He has many years of experience in the film industry and has frequently collaborated with Even Benestad. Together they co-directed Pushwagner and Club 7. August has produced I want to live in my name (2019) by director Lars Erlend Øymo and My Heart Belongs to Daddy (2018) by director Sofia Haugan, together with Carsten. August is currently developing several new projects both as director and producer.

Even debuted as a director with the film All About My Father in 2002. The film was featured at over 100 film festivals and won numerous awards. Later, he directed the critically acclaimed films Natural Born Star, Pushwagner and Club 7 (the latter two together with August Baugstø Hanssen). He has also directed both short films and commercials. From 2013 to 2017 he worked as a documentary film consultant for the Norwegian Film Institute before joining Indie Film as a director and creative producer. In 2020 his short documentary The Earth is a Chili (2022) premiered at the Children Film Festival in Kristiansand. Even is currently developing new projects as director and producer.
Stig Andersen

Stig studied art history at the University in Oslo and has worked with TV and documentary for more than 30 years. He began his career in NRK where he contributed to the creation of NRK2. He since worked at Motlys and Nordisk Film, and was a film commissioner at the Norwegian Film Institute. At Indie Film, Stig has produced Arctic Superstar (2016) by director Simen Braathen, starred in the NRK mini-web series Helt Kjørt (2019) and directed Munch in Hell (2018). He is currently developing new projects as producer and director in Indie Film.

Silje is distributor and assistant producer at Indie Film. She has worked and programmed for several film festivals, such as HUMAN International Documentary Film Festival from 2014-21 and worked in different capacities for The Norwegian Short Film Festival from 2011-2017. She’s worked with Films From the South, South Fund and Le Monde diplomatique. Silje has an MA in Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation from Trinity College Dublin. In Indie Film she was in charge of the theatrical distribution and impact campaign of the Amanda winning documentary Young and Afraid (2021). She is assistant producer of the TV-series Welcome to Norway (2022), and is currently developing new projects as producer.
Tanya Potts Aanonsen

Tanya has worked as a production co-ordinator and casting director for 25 years. Educated in Mexico City, she has been involved in a variety of international commercial and film productions and has had to good fortune to manage the project Kickstart, providing film education and internships for young adults. She now runs Indie Film’s Audio Description service, providing a cinematic experience for the sight-impaired.

Karianne has a Masters in documentary directing from Lillehammer University College. She has been at Indie Film since 2008, working on all aspects of film production and distribution. In 2016, she debuted as director with the suspenseful feature documentary The Grenade Man. In 2017, she started Indie Film’s theatrical distribution arm, delivering Steffan Strandberg’s The Night, and Sofia Haugan’s My Heart Belong to Daddy. She has produced Even Benestad's short documentary The Earth is a Chili (2020) and Emilie Beck's first feature documentary No Place Like Home (2022). In 2022 her true crime TV-series Welcome To Norway premiered at TV 2, DR, C-More in Sweden, MTV in Finland and Canal+ in Poland.
